Age of Stupid Goes to Church
Eco film screening at St Gabriels Willesden Green
Brent Friends of the Earth (FoE) will hold a free screening of the groundbreaking film on climate change, ‘The Age of Stupid’ at St Gabriel’s Church in Willesden Green on Tuesday 27th April at 7.30pm.
‘The Age Of Stupid’ stars Pete Postlethwaite as a man living in the devastated world of 2055, watching "archive" footage from 2008 and asking: why didn't we stop climate change while we had the chance? It paints a stark vision of a devastated future where climate change has wreaked havoc. Pete Postlethwaite’s scenes were filmed in a disused warehouse in Willesden, Brent.
Jane Morris, Vicar of St Gabriel’s Church in Willesden says, “We are pleased to be hosting the showing of this film at St Gabriel’s. We have a concern for groups in our local community and welcome the showing of this film. We see part of our Christian faith as caring for a world created by God, and very practically we are looking at ways to keep St Gabriel’s warm and at the same time reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.”
Pam Laurance, Brent Friends of the Earth member and Neasden resident, says, "As well as the film, speakers from Friends of the Earth will be discussing the current situation in relation to climate change. I hope people will come along and find out more about the threat posed by climate change and what we can all do. April 27th is only nine days away from the general and local elections – we can discuss what we want our politicians to do. After all what’s the point of politics if we haven't got a planet?”
The free film screening will take place on Tuesday 27th April at St Gabriel’s Church, Walm Lane, Willesden Green, NW2 4RX. Doors open at 7.30pmand the film will start at 7.45pm, followed by a Q&A session with speakers from national and local Friends of the Earth. Refreshments will be on sale. Friends of the Earth will be holding an information stall.
