The 2025 healthy streets scorecard has been published, and with a score of only 3.49 out of 10 (down from 3.78 last year), Brent has a long way to go to make its streets healthy for residents.
The score puts Brent in 21st place out of the 33 London boroughs, and 7th Place out of the 19 Outer London boroughs.
While there is good news on the percentage of people walking 5 times a week - up about 3% on last year - there is a significant fall in numbers cycling. Not surprising, as just 1% of borough-managed roads have protected cycle tracks. Low Traffic Neighbourhoods cover only 12% of the suitable streets. There is also no improvement in the number of bus priority lanes, so buses are often delayed.
The best news comes with Brent's school-focused measures, with big increases in the Travel for Life programme participation, and the School Streets coverage.
But as the report concludes:
"Brent must reverse its overall score slide by building more cycle tracks, expanding LTNs and CPZs, and translating its high walking share into broader sustainable‑mode growth. Strengthening Bus priority schemes and pushing 20 mph to far more comprehensive coverage, alongside continued School Street expansion, will help embed healthier, safer, more active travel for all residents."
The scorecard is produced by the Healthy Streets Coalition, a group of transport, health, road safety, and envoronmental campaigns including the London Cycling Campaign, London Living Streets, Sustrans and Possible.
